A computer today is used for many different purposes from writing your latest CV to photo editing and even accounting. Typically the way a computer is used evolves and people dont consider how they store their data, or what is important.
It is usually hard to put a value on the data on your computer, because most of it doesn't relate directly to your primary income. Even in small business, there is usually a service or a product that is provided independantly of the computers. The easiest way to put a value on your data is to ask yourself a few simple questions. If you lost everything on your PC:
- How long could my business continue to operate?
- Could I invoice my clients?
- Would I attract fines from the ATO for not lodging my BAS on time?
- How long would it take to recreate everything I needed to run my businesss properly?
